Presumably we're talking a right angled triangle, in which case it's good
'ole  pythagoras. This states :

The square of the hypotonuse equals the sum of the squares of the other 2
sides :

 	Hyp ^ 2 = side1^2  + side2^2

   so:

	Hyp =     / side1^2 + side2^2
		\/
