for amateur use 12k is too high
2.4k (mid) is on the high side and
80hz is too low
all the above are eq user controls +- 15 dB
what i have done is put 100nf across both 30nf caps adjacent to the 12k gain
pot ( makeing it about 3k)
left middle (2.4k) alone and
replaced the 2x 30nf on the 80hz to 10nf , makeing it about 240hz.
ok its a bit of a sod to set-up gain wise as with my yaesu ft 847 the channel
pot and the main level pot are about centre and the meters do not read AT ALL..
but if u match it with white noise u can set it up ok ..
i have the 'old' 12k (now 3k at slightly minus
sorry slightly plus )
the 2.4 k slighly minus and the bassslightly plus ..
this gives a ''smiley face ' type eq , and as there is little bass in my voice
makes it a lot more pleasant for easy'' qso's.
for dx then i use it flat as the ''peakiness' of the centre freqs are an
advantage ( comms quality)
i have also just purchased the w2ihy 8 band audio equaliser and noise gate and
i hve to admit that despite its price tage of nearly 4 times the behr , it IS
A FAR MORE EASIER UNIT TO SET -UP AND OPERATE
 .
not only does it have ''through '' ptt , u can use vitrually and mike on a
kenwood yaesu or icom , on it..or an xlr or phono input.
although ''pricey'' it has been very well designed and built and i am so glad
it is now available.
the behr on the other hand has bare wires as ptt!!!!, but can run 48v phantom
or not on xlr's ( either or both of 2 channels, as well as 1/4'' jack mic and
/or lines)
so ... u pays your money and takes your choice.
for simplicity of use i'd go for the w2ihy any day and not only that it comes
with a decent cct diagram with suggested mods noted ; eg how to changebandpass
centre freqs, fully wired etc.
the optional extras for either device are mic leads , which i purchased , both
for icom and yaesu , 19.95p for the behr and 22.95p for the w2..( prices are
each).. yes thatsabout 85 pounds on leads alone!, but its only money , and your
only young once!
to recap
the behr is about 54.95 and the w2 about 229.95 uk pounds,
as i needed the behr for another purpose as well i decided to keep it, but
otherwise i would plump for the w2ihy. de Alvin g6dtw
i have no connection with the companies involved.
