There are lots of freeware mailserver packages out there but most of them
are for Unix platforms. 'sendmail', 'smail' and 'exim' are three that
spring to mind.
If you're looking for something that you can run on an MS platform,
though, take a look at Mercury/32 (www.pmail.com). It's free, like all of
David Harris' other software, and pretty simple to set up and use. I've
used it before in an earlier incarnation and quite liked it. You *can* use
MS-Outlook for sending the mail but I'd advise against it. Too many
security vulnerabilities for my liking.
Pegasus Mail is a good e-mail package but its user interface might take
some getting used to for someone that's been using Outlook before. Take a
good look at Thunderbird. Very simple to set up and operate and not that
different in its user interface from Outhouse^H^H^H^H^Hlook.
Good luck with your endeavours.
Regards,
- Sean.
