Hi Bob and readers,
Last things first, the TV's main power source is the rectified, filtered
and regulated mains voltage, everything comes from there. Gone are the
days of the EHT regulator when the source DC supply is regulated so no
wonder there is little to no change in brightness or scan (shrinkage)
under varying mains voltage conditions. There IS a limit of course, at
the extreme of the summer air conditioner overload here the voltage can
go as low as 90 from a 115 nominal and my TV shows a slight upset.
Well of course safety precautions should be taken when installing
resistors for those pedal lamps like locating them back along the wiring
away from the lamps (so some Darwin Award winner changing the lamps won't
touch them) where they'll be well ventilated. Then too you can always put
them where the dolt gets a jolt for not switching off the mains before
servicing the organ and give him the award postumously. Idiots need to be
removed from the gene pool, better yet eliminated before the age of
puberty for obvious reasons.
BTW, "...a lower than normal voltage the generators in the organ would
be."? Only the lamps Bob, only the lamps. (;->) Besides, you'd need a
carbon pile resistor ballast for the current requirements of the full
organ (all stops pulled). BTW, I tried that with a Wurlitzer at the local
theatre once, the generator lamp dimmed, wind failed and it sounded
pretty sick. (;->)
