Actually coal ash is poisonous to plants. Wood ash contain lots of potash
so is good for the garden.

Yes but note the difference in quantities. This makes it easier and indeed
possible to store it safely for 10,000 years or so (not that the world
will last that long, but just in case it does). It is not as dangerous as
you may think.
