Hello

and in regard to Dick , the originator of said thread...

Yes, a healthy input (installing!) of VDRs will help,

But , remember , static , and its problems ( with winter
aus-za) dry air introduce problems from a different slant.

And ! please note : the chargers today use Silicon diodes.
The Mains voltage fluctuations are more closely followed (
because of the tighter Silicon bandwith) than with olde
style
" SELENIUM " rectifiers. A difference of 5% Mains (voltage)
in between Silicone or Silischium Rectifiers can readily and
quite fastly been recognized. Silischium rectifiers with
their greater internal resistance are more forgiving - but
can be putting in some heftier charge at lower mains. Over
all... there is no world moving difference , but youll
notice some diff as well.
+++ Note : Empahsis added : Lead Acid Batteries , the
motoring kind :
Are much - much more forgiving to " overcharge and some
abuse " than ...for instance Nicads or Nimhs...
Do not mix them up.
Im BASIC general - if an old style Lead-Acid - battery has
got its plates covered ( With deionised...shucks.., why not
tell the truth : Distilled !!!! Water ) it will go to
hundreds of abuse cycles ...nicads or others can't, won't or
simly don't...period.

Your " CAR " battery is inherently a robust device , even if
badly , or cheaply made - you can expect about +- 3 years
of reliable service if charge is available...and regularly
administered E.G. recharge fully every 3 month...a standing
by battery.
( Some makers say , that an idling lead acid battery loose
1% ( 1/100) of charge every day... something like
radioctivity diminishing today... , komma due to its
makeup. and well , folks do I have to spell out everything
here?)
Where is the Beer?

Sorry , gotten carried away

Ham radio take notice : This discusion is about car
batteries.
The little junk we use for HHs or so is "Different"

And please note : Welding and other heavy duty stuff....Done
on motor vehicles are soemeting else. Every welder , doing a
qicky - close to the tank (petrol -GAS ) can vouch for
it...if he/she lives...
And , belive me ... I've seen a lot in between, it is easy
to do it wrongly. apparently the instructions are not read.
Not due to inability but due to... OK , Fine , thats where
"U" come in.

Got it ?

and , ah yes , to the original question , : to remove
battery out of car circuit while charging...Yes it is a good
idea. but fumbling around with the connections evrytime is
not.In principle , you might do more harm =if charging every
= every other day = to fumbling around on the darn
connections , than recharging might do. but then , if your
cars charging equipment is set to low. (that in hot {
tropical! } ] climates your full charging potential is not
reached...

Read some battery pamphlets...in normal... climates (today
there is no such thing ) the battery acid should show a
density of :1 , 24 ...in tropical climates it might show :
1 , 22 ... and in cold climates it should show 1 , 65 and
above ... for new, fully charged batteries ( differs
according to the makers)

No one today followes that rule ...any more.. Some batteries
are sealed , and how would you determine. And just try : to
determine the knowleadge od some car sellers / and or/
mechanic of the previous knowlege. it is really not needed
any more...I found out : all batteries are eaqally bad.
Rplace in between 2 / 2/1/2 years. ANYWAY.,

And just to do some justice to some manufacturers., I have
seen qaulity (names of batteries) gone bad wthin 1 1/2
years.
And there are batteries ( Lead/acid and others) which can
heck a lot of years. and to to some justice here : the
Americans = E. G . USA are best. (what I have seen.)

Ok , folks , this is my input. Where is your putput?

And , yes I have more on this thread. Batteries , for cars
even, are quite entertaining. A fully charged battery would
never be so... think on that...
