I use an alternative solution.
I use a solar powered panel that plugs into my cigar lighter to keep my
motorhome vehicle battery charged up. It works well and was very cheap IMHO to
buy.
With various anti theft alarms fitted taking power plus the usual gizmos, last
year I found the battery flat frequently. Not since I used my solar panel and
even in winter it continued to work OK.
Got it online from Batt-man. The Solar Company 08700 107733 Cost me œ22.89.
In case you can't get the cigar lighter to have a connection to the battery,
when the ignition key is removed, they include a direct to battery connecting
lead.
Incidentally, I also have a Metro Jump Start. Car to car jump start using the
cigar lighter sockets. Consists of a little box of tricks that will charge up
a flat battery from dead in 25 - 30 minutes. I have a bit of a problem with
the indicator lights showing charge and ready due to my colour blindness but
as they're marked I can see "something" showing.
If the battery is only a little flat and you just get the starter motor
clicking, you're ready to start in 10 - 15 minutes.
Cost œ11.95 Saxon Industries make it, 01488 689 400 but got mine from Towsure
0870 60 900 70. www.towsure.co.uk
BTW. I have ordinary jump leads as well but never was one to get my hands
dirty under the bonnet. Although it did happen once on my way to a gig whilst
wearing my dress shirt/dinner suit/bow tie.
Lead broke off from the distributor and using a torch (it was dark) I found
the problem, fixed it and was on my way again.
Arrived 15 minutes late with filthy hands at the posh Dinner Dance, and after
getting cleaned up, got a round of applause when I started to play.
