Hello Warren and others.
In a DOWSE@WW bull you wrote about to learn and accept facts.
Ofcourse at school one learns about all the great discoveries
like from Kepler and Galileo. The major religion in Europe
went through a period which we call enlightenment which means
we eg consider like Bob, VK6BE the instructions of what to eat or
not as irrelevant. Still I think a lot of families, individuals
have difficulties to embrace the new discovered facts.
There are people who are convinced that there actually was
a movement, and still is, of the enlightened. If this is true I
really would not know.
A month ago I saw on tv a young man of around 23 years from the USA
who was going to university. He was learning to become
a prehistoric archelogist. His parents were afraid to "lose"
him because he eg had to learn about the jurassic time and the animals
that lived in it. Ofcourse the bones, facts, proved they once
lived. I think it all went well, but the situation
looked serious to me. Families like that also live in Holland.
I met a lot of them in my life, and sometimes the situtation
becomes critical when they set themselves free. Often
they cannot cope with their freedom as they have never learned
how to live without chains. Some live in small sect like
communities which have what I would call social police.
A lot of information they cannot swallow. The situtation they
are in prevents that despite we live in 2004 after all the
dicoveries we have now about our total envirement.
Their are stiil (some) people in Holland who have no
health insurance, or will not vaccinate themselves
because of their religious background. (parents)
Not all religions went through a period of enlightenment.
Some consider a theocracy as ideal. In their model, state
and relgion are integrated. Their behaviour which is based
on their faith differs a lot from other religions.
Completely different. A lot of people in the western world
assume it is similar like theirs, but it is not.
There are fundametal differences. Don't think one can alter
that overnight.
When I look at a world in changes, not all are convinced
about what others consider to be facts. They prefer a flat
world in which all is black and white. For them life
becomes easier that way. Not everybody wants to be free,
a lot of people want to be guided, strictly instructed and
like to hear of being the center of it all.
(Stars can frighten, remember)
A telescope also reveals about being smaller than an ant.
Again not all can cope with facts.
