Hello Warren and readers,
The text of my bulletin was on the subject of a programme
that determines loss in a co-axial cable at a frequency and VSWR entered by the
user, and then calculates the VSWR at the load (antenna) end of the cable.
It just happens to be encoded in 7plus for transmission via packet radio. It
was therefore NOT, repeat NOT, about 7plus.

Hi y'all,

Now that's an interesting twist, a bull about 7+ having the subject Co-ax
(coax) loss aand (and) VSWR, (;->)

Addressing the text body I wonder where VK2ZRG got the idea "my" BBS
can't handle 8 bit "mail" when it cannot be determined by me which BBS in
the forwarding chain is at fault. Gee, wonder how he does it, I sure
would like to know.

Then there is G4XNH with a comment that makes no sense at all but true to
form. I sometimes wish I had your bent Jeff, most of what you write seems
to escape me.

Well, to both of you, I'm reminded of something a psychologist once told
me, "Don't try to make sense out of nonsense."

I mentioned that some BBSs (plural you will note.) I didn't mean the the last
one in the chain that Warren gets his packet mail from, can't handle 7plus
because on 22 Dec 2003 Warren wrote this.

Hi Ralph and readers,

Whomever may send those calculation programs may surely do so in whatever
format is supported by the intended path. Bear in mind that not all
packet stations, BBSes, nodes, digis, whatever support 7+ and may just
pass ASCII. I can't receive 7+ here for that very reason, so while such
files may be distributed they will not be received properly at all
locations. Then too some do not know how or refuse to send 7+ properly,
that is break the file apart into "byte size" parts and NOT send them all
at once. There have been numerous complaints all along and when 7+ came
on the scene it was abused so badly it had the whole network in an uproar.

End of snip --------------

I don't know the actual BBS any more than you do Warren, but it must be in
your neck of the woods. No one else seems to be greatly troubled by corrupt
7plus bulletins. Maybe that no longer happens as Warren wrote on 20 April 2004

Hi Jose`,

Unless it is abused I see no reason not to use the 7+ protocol (works
well as an old Internet protocol too) on packet since it's better than
YAPP by a wide margin. It makes binary file transfer easy, that is if you
have a compiler to reassemble the segments.

I have voiced objections myself BUT concerning ABUSE, that is sending
huge ammounts of data at once or huge file segments that DO clog the
network and disrupt other traffic. Yeah, the land line lids don't
understand how store and forward RF packet works since they're on the
Internet that handles traffic in an entirely different manner.

As long as the file segment size is kept within proper limits and not too
many sent all at one time there is no problem and I support proper use.
BTW, being a rail fan I support sending those train pictures, too bad
those who send them aren't fans in the true sense of the word so they
don't send the proper catalog information. (;->) Yeah, for that reason
they're useless except to look at, that is if you don't mind looking at
an unknown subject and have no idea how to catalog it in the photo
archives.

Hmmmm, now if they would only catch on how to tag the image the info
would be read easily by the viewer. (;->)

Oh, do you have any problem with the SSTV activity on 20M? (;->) Nah, I'm
just being silly...

It sounds like Warren can now receive 7plus bulletins. Maybe I'm wrong...I'm
sure Warren will let us know.
