Hello Ian.
ASCII has nothing to do with formatting textes. It only describes characters,
not how they look. And this it does pretty well for the american standard
characters (remember: ASCII stands for American Standard Code for Information
Interchange)...
For other special national characters (like our German Umlaute) it is quite a
mess, though...
