Every LAN card (including the 802.11 equipment) has a unique MAC address
hard coded into the harware. The number is made up from the
manufacturers own code flowed by a number unique to only one card. You
can set up your access point to only allow access to systems with the
correct MAC code number. I understand it is difficult, though not
impossible to spoof a MAC code.
