Greetings and perhaps someone can help with my very very slow LAN. I have
a desktop AMD XP 1500/256Mb connected to Toshiba Laptop P2/233/64Mb.

The desktop was running Windows 2000, the laptop Windows98se and ran 100%
OK at 100Mbps via a crossover cable. Now the laptop is running Windows
2000 as well with the same hardware the link is unusable. With a ping
scan I get 47% lost packets, no use at all even at 10Mbps.

I dont suspect the NIC in the desktop its a Belkin F5D5000 but the PC card
for the laptop I am not so happy about, its a newish Fast Ethernet PC card
(MD010C) by Unex-tech (from PC World). The MS signed driver for this is
Realtek 8139 and also the unex-tech driver (FETHCB.sys) is the latest but
both have the same slow link. The PC card ports are also the MS signed
versions for the Toshiba (ToPIC100). The cardport, PC card and some other
devices share an IRQ but this is normal with Windows 2000 and it makes no
difference if I remove the other devices.

Hope someone has seen and fixed a problem like this and can help. I
checked all the network services are running and only using TCP/IP. Either
DHCP os static addressing its just the same.

Will that LAN expert please step forward.

Thanks and 73
