Hello all,

Hartmut DL1YDD rebuffs Mark VK3JMA and Dick VK3JMA citing TI to Amateur
satellites in the 2.4GHz band without considering the systems proposed
and being built employ highly directional antennas for point to point
communications links, ie. packet. Hart, this is a serious oversight
considering that well constructed and properly operated links present
little to no TI potential. You cite the commercial applications which use
low power and non directional antennas which may or may not present a
problem to satellite links depending upon many variables to be
considered. Surely such interference potential was taken into account in
the deployment of commercial systems which must comply to the rules and
regulations covering such systems as well as the same covering Amateur
operations in shared bands.

Since Amateur allocation is secondary or tertiary in such shared bands
interference is OUR problem and must be dealt with accordingly. When it
comes to Amateur to Amateur interference we will deal with it just like
whe have been doing all along, cooperation.

All in all I prefer to cross the bridge when I come to it rather than
speculating "What if?". Common sense dictates that any Amateur
communications must be conducted on a non interference basis and one must
do his homework in order to identify potential problems and set up
systems accordingly. This is common practice in setting up ANY
transmitting station, now isn't it?
