Hi Dick and readers,
Just a few observations and comments, surely repeated elsewhere.
I too enjoyed the technical discussions, especially the ones you
mentioned which "degenerated" into some pretty funny stuff. I totally
cracked up and added plenty of "rubbish" of my own when those Aussies
found beer at the center of the Earth. Still I wonder if some may have
pricked a finger or two on those cadmium spikes and are now Sleeping
Beauties. Hmmm, maybe that's why some have dropped out of discussion.
Now please define "recent flood" in light of the fact that we see a
constant stream of the same "BBC Fatties" from the Untidy Kingdom (my
term). Perhaps a combination, all encompassing term based on yours would
be "raging queens". Oh BTW, please give those Feminazis you mentioned the
boot, we have enough trouble without their constant rabble rousing.
Now why do you ask questions you already know the answer to? You gave
those answers in the same breath with the reference to "unfriendly
language" which is an understatement in itself. You don't need a degree
in physics to see the cause and effect here, the morons do their part
driving sensible users off packet. It's just like a worthless e-mail
account, nobody wants to weed through mountains of spam to read the mail,
so they find a spam free server.
Of course there are much more serious issues than idiots, mostly
technical problems drive users away and cut off others entirely. No need
to mention things you're all so familiar with, you don't need my
preaching hellfire and damnation over the painfully obvious.
Now WHAT new group could you possibly be going on about? Perhaps you
should check with your retailer about TNC sales. Get real man, when a
newbie gets his computer, it comes with a modem and Internet software
installed so why go any farther? You obviously overlooked my bulletins
regarding the wherabouts of the US Hams so missing from packet. The
recent Internet dump made that SO obvious, you saw all their callsigns on
those newsgroups! Just HOW could you have missed it???
FYI, the only reason you saw less than half the flood was because of word
filters used on BBSes that dumped most of the obscenities and other foul
language they use in those bulletins. You think the crap that fles on
packet from time to time is bad? When it comes to the Internet, ya ain't
seen nuttin yet! Naturally I never bothered with any of those Internet
meeting places exactly for that reason, packet is bad enough thank you.
I hate to be a wet blanket, but you asked and I answered. Not to be cold
as well, I too hope to see more worthwhile discussions and sorely miss
the tech stuff. Well, not entirely, lots of tech and general discussion
nets around and THEY don't hurl insults at each other or net control
would shut it down in a heartbeat. Notice I said "would", never saw the
need.
I have already seen packet rebounding after the latest and expect it to
continue on an upward curve, at least until the next time some fools
shoot it down. Still there is hope!
Last but not least, the rosey idea of not responding to "them" is easier
said than done. There are two very good reasons for responding, at least
initially. First, if allowed to get away with it they will be taken at
face value and truth. Second, when one is wrongfully accused he MUST
stand up and counter or the accusation also will be taken as truth. There
is a very ancient saying that comes down to "When the first presents his
case he is believed, until the second presents his."
This is not to say a situation should progress into an open squabble, a
judge would never allow such in his court! One should simply know when to
shut up, even if "the other guy" keeps running off at the mouth.
Remember, it takes two to Tango so there is no point in TWO fools going
at it once rebuttal has been presented.
