I only intended it as a cheap and cheerfull means to provide a very
accurate frequency reference. Before building it, I could never be sure
which of my instruments was telling lies. This purpose it serves
admirably, providing you take account of the short term jitter.

It might well have been the 4046 which I made use of in my own design.
