Hi John,
Looks like you have a rather old Bearcat by the tail. (;->) Sorry I can't
give specific information on that model, so I hope a general guide to
scanners will help.
It seems to me those channels are scan edge presets used two limit the
range of two scans in "VFO" mode. Usually they are set to scan low band
and high band respectively. BTW, the reference to VFO mode is a familiar
term in Amateur Radio for reference only, in scanning it's called search
mode.
These may be set by keypad entry as you know, but in some cases not meant
to be set by stepping as the other memory slots are. That means it may be
normal for that particular model.
Those frequencies you mentioned with one exception are within the VHF low
band, 87.450 is an oddball. Some scanners can receive standard US FM
broadcast stations in WFM mode, yours may be one of them. If not the PLL
has become unlocked. The frequency that's not working is likely because
the memory IC has a blown port. I have encountered this problem befor,
but unfortunately, Bearcat/Uniden has a bad habit of using proprietary
components, particularly memory chips, so you may not find a replacement
available for older models.
I suppose the best you can do is set those working frequencies to search
the portion of a band of interest and be satisfied it works at all.
(;->) No sarcasm intended, I just speak from many years of scanning
experience and familiarity with one of the best products on the market,
Uniden.
