Hello Kevin and readers,
Thank you very much for the more detailed description of the
installation. This makes it perfectly clear what went wrong.
"In case of dummy, insert fuse." is certainly a good idea, BUT the
company seems to have overlooked another aspect of the situation. A heavy
flexible strap from case to frame is definately in order when there is no
other direct metallic connection. This additional protection is most
important, not only for dummy proofing but for proper, noise free
operation as well. This will avoid the equipment (hopefully) and
definately the antenna and/or coax from going up in smoke.
Oh, leave the fuse there, it will protect the negative return lead from
dummies in THIS case and some others but not ALL. OK, now I've left
myself to attack by those "other dummies" who like to twist my words and
say I contradict myself. Surely you understand that I'm not contradicting
things left unsaid. (;->)
Now if others were as thoughtful in explaining and/or giving proper
details as you have done this discussion would have ended with a very few
exchanges. Thanks again for clarification instead of the pointless
arguement all too common on packet. With a bit of luck those others will
catch on and follow your shining example.
