Hi Folks,
Those of you who like to dabble in computer-controlled hardware and miss the
"user port" found on the older computers may be interested in a program I've
just finished writing and testing for Windows 98se and Windows ME.
It allows a PC's Parallel Port (either LPT1 or LPT2) to read and control up
to 5 "real" inputs (from switches etc) and up to 8 real outputs.
I've called it ParaPort (for want of a better name) and is fully
programmable to allow any combination of inputs using simple programming
instructions such as: 'input 3 and not input 2' etc.
Some of its features include:
Internal logic allows outputs to be 'fed back' as inputs
to allow latching circuits.
4 Timers each with adjustable delays between 0 and 65,500 mSec.
4 Counters each with adjustable counts between 0 and 999.
5 Event Loggers to display messages on screen.
1 Sound Event to play any selected wav file.
Up to 100 lines of programming 'code'.
'Manual' control of the outputs by 'clicking' on-screen buttons.
It won't run on Windows 2000 or NT (because these systems do not allow
direct hardware access) but I've included some notes with the program which
*may* help ParaPort to be used on these systems.
I've just uploaded paraport.zip to my website at
www.vwlowen.demon.co.uk/radio/files.htm
The zip file is 220k in size and includes full documentation and a couple of
demonstrations showing programming examples which will run without needing
any external hardware connected to the parallel port.
73 John.
