A DEC3100 is an Alpha-family workstation. I don't know the 3100 PM20ACA,
but if it's a whole package, then it's a mid-range workstation based on
DEC's own bus design (whose name escapes me; their MIPS boxes had it too).
I was at DEC when they started up the Alphas. I think the names went like
this:
DEC2000 - PC-style
DEC3000 - workstation-style
DEC4000 and higher numbers were servers, minis, mainfarmes, whatever.
These are very fast machines (or were for their day; the 3100 might be
an older, slower CPU by today's standards), and run DEC Unix, Windows NT or
AlphaVMS. The disk I/O subsystem is SCSI and it has integral Ethernet.
Some DEC3000s have integral ISDN, though not always fully built out.

Are you sure about this? as I recall DEC3000 machines were old machines
based on the old MIPS R3000 processors. They had about 386 level performance
on integer and somewhat better floating point.

A "DECstation 3100" or a "DEC3100"?
My remarks about Alpha don't apply to DECstations. That label was used
for MIPS R3000-based machines, maybe even R2000 if it's one of the early ones.
The "DECx000" label, no "station", was later, for the Alphas.
You can spot an Alpha CPU by its huge heat sink! Sort of looks like a
Harley cylinder. Big.
The DECstation is, by today's standard, a weakling. Probably more like
a 486 in speed, but better in floating point.
