Do you have one of these verticals?
If so, and you have a digital camera, I would LOVE to hear from you.....I
need to know WHERE the little wire mesh "jumper " wire is supposed to
go.....there is a small wire mesh jumper wire, with two solder lugs, one on
each end.. I can't remember where it is supposed to be on the antenna.
Anyone help here?, a scanned copy of the MANUAL would be nice, if
possible..

The latest version of aprsd available on the sourceforge site is
2.2.5-14. -14 was released, according to the site, in May of this year.
There's no reason I can think of for anyone to avoid upgrading to -14.
Doesn't mean there isn't one, I just don't know of it.

Never heard of it.
Since storm watches cover an area, an ICON in my opinioin is useless. The
AREA icon should be used and the area covered should be the
thing that is displayed.

Or am I missing something?

I agree... The icon that is put in the "middle" of the area box should be
the T-Storm symbol or a Flood symbol or... What kind of storm will is the
stormwatch symbol supposed to represent?

Kevin,

Can your area make use of TPARCs network?
http://www3.telus.net/mike_sankey/index.htm
http://www3.telus.net/mike_sankey/connecting_to_the_available_serv.htm

Access is avail at 1200 Baud, trunking 9600 or better. ROSE switches used
so a bit different from NETROM, TheNET or Kantronics, however it's a good
connected network. Can get in to PEP in Victoria or Kamloops and probably
find a connect to pass stuff to Min of Forests in Vic if necessary.

Addresses use the two area codes 250 and 604.

If you are running Voice Alert (Using CTCSS to mute your 144.39 speaker)
dont forget that the SQUELCH knob still has a function even though it does
not make any difference to what you hear on the speaker (which is usually
99.9% nothing)...

If you "open" the squelch knob (even though you dont hear anything),
you are causing a permanent "busy" to the TNC and you will never transmit.

A friend just called at whits end, becsue his positions are 5 days old on
FINDU... We traced the problem to the constant "busy" showing on his
Band-A.

Perhaps it has utility as general type of alert? In the manner that some
amateur repeaters say"storm warnings: or those with out voice have a
differant courtesy tone when there are warnings for the area. Broadcast
stations have a periodic tone to alert listeners to warnings are issued.--73

But there isn't such a monster in the NWS world. When the NWS sends out a
warning, watch, or advisory they include what kind of bulletin the are
sending out. They have bulletins for everything known to man... But that
does spark another question that I have about wxserv...

Dale,
Are Civil Emergency Messages being parsed in your server??? I think they
are "CEM" messages. If so, how do they "look" on the map?

In APRS, the problem is that an ICON occupies a fixed exact coordinate on
the surface of the earth. If there is nothing physically at that
location, then there should be no APRS ICON there...

Wathces and Warnings cover an "area", thus APRS has AREA type mechanisms
for such applications. (APRS also has position ambiguity for similar
vague references, but since not all authors implemented position
ambiguity correctly, it cannot be reliably used)...
