I would like to point out from the ARRL band plan for 2 meters I beleive
several frequencies are available for digital modes from
145.01mhz-145.09mhz. Use of any of these are legit for packet type
transmissions.

I like your thoughts but maybe since Field Day is an "emergency
communications preparedness situation" that alot of groups run on non
commercial power, that means that local digis and nodes aren't available.
Now you have to prove you can make digital communications in the same manner
you are making HF, VHF, UHF, etc. from your Field Day site to other Field
Day sites in the same situation (on non commercial power). That would
probably mean not on established frequencies such as 144.39. I am saying
that this is a test of communications in a true emergency situation such as
a large area brown out or black out. Our club and surrounding couties all
play the same way. Generators and batteries and even some solar power are
employed.
The "rules" are always open to interpretation and 10 people will look at the
same piece of printed rules and make 10 different determinations on what
they read.
I just wanted to post my interpretation on what I thought I read.

Anyone using the Tigertrak TM1+ for personal tracker?
I have tried running it with a garmin 12xl and my handheld supplying power
to the TM1 from a 9v battery..(radio and gps on thier own batteries) unit
will work a few times but then shuts off when transmitting. I assume
drawing too close to 8 volts when transmitting?
anyone else tried this setup. Trying to keep the power source to a minimum
for portability

Yes, exactly!
That is why we will propose for FD 2005 to QSY and ONLY use portable
stations and FD-ONLY digis... See the plan:

Prior to then lets everyone survey the packet channels in their area so
that they KNOW what channel will be clear and good to use for the QSY on
FD.
APRS users should be AWARE of all other digital systems in their area and
all other digital frequencies. So they can properly respond in an
emergency. APRS is not everything. Other channels and services WILL BE
REQUIRED. Exercise them!

Doug,
Are you aware of a symbol for a SUV, specifically a suburban? I will be
using the commtrak mostly in my pickup, but would also like to have it so I
could change the symbol for my suburban.
