how difficult would it be to make the TT microcontroller wait say 1-2
seconds...well...let me rephrase that... IF the merc switch is in the
"mandown" position for 1-2 seconds continuously, THEN it beacons the
emergency beacon?

Hi:

In conjunction with the development of TNC-X, it was necessary to create a
very simple program that would route KISS frames out any serial port at a
specified baud rate (for testing purposes). To accomplish this, I wrote a
little utility called "TXTest". You simply specify your callsign, a baud
rate and select a serial port and push the "transmit" button. A single
KISS frame is then routed out the port you specified at the baud rate you
specified.

It occurred to me that others might have a use for this program in
conjunction with testing their serial ports or KISS TNC's. So I have
posted it to the "documentation" page on www.tnc-x.com . It is freeware so
feel free to take a copy and/or distribute it to anyone who asks for it.
