I remember a short time ago there was a brief, but somewhat
controversial conversation about broadband over the power lines. Here is
a link discussing this in Austria. Scroll down to the "Austria Pulls the
Plug on BPL", little over 1/2 way down the page.
http://www.conformity.com/current_newsbreaks.html#get
It is 3 paragraphs, but the first one is below (keeping the post
somewhat brief).
The Austrian government has stopped a Broadband Over Power Line (BPL)
field test in the city of Linz because of excessive radio interference.
Austrian amateur radio organizations have notified the ARRL (American
Radio Relay League – the leading US radio amateursâ€Ö organization) that
the Austrian Government Ministry for Commerce, Innovation, and
Technology shut down a BPL pilot project because it was generating
interference on the HF bands (high frequency, generally taken as 3 to 30
MHz).

Howdy,
Does anyone know how to connect and get data from the agw packet engine ?
It works 100 % with UI-VIEW
I tried telnet 127.0.0.1 8000 , telnet localhost 8000 and even a simple VB6
Winsock program
No data comes out ?
Do you have to ack data packets ?
I know it decodes cause I use it with UI-VIEW

I did some successfull experimentation time ago and I do not remember
details.
From AGW page I got some examples under develop.zip/winsockexample.zip and
doc under develop.zip/sockif.zip/AgwSockInterface.doc.
Be aware that some protocol is necessary to start the communication with
your app.

It seems as though with all of the other "important" mailings, mine must
have gotten lost in the pile. Here is one for the real reason we are listed
in this group. Can anyone validate this problem?

I am running version 863 and have seen this in previous versions.
I would receive a message from someone while my screen is showing the map.
After sometime, it would lock the program up and give me the prompt for the
"trouble.txt or hit enter." I figured I needed to activate Redraw.
Redraw does its thing every 600 seconds as I have set but still, if someone
sends a message to me, more so to "all" do I get, the program will not
"redraw" the map with the limits I have set.
Wondered if anyone else has received similar errors and/or may have a
solution?

That would be RMNC, the Rhein-Main-Network-Controller for which FlexNet was
actually written in the first place. If you search for RMNC you will find a
lot of sites... The PC version was made later for those that could not
build an RMNC controller or did not want to. They are wide spread in
Germany and Austria, but as far as I know not much elsewhere.
The processor is not that advanced, it is a 6809 with 64 kB ram and 64 kB
eprom on every channel card. It is a bus-system with several of those cards
and a watchdog card and a master card to get it complete. At
http://www.oe9.at/rmnc.htm you can see a picture (text is in German however).
The channel cards uses Zilog SCC chips (Z8530) to create the HDLC data,
this way even a simple 8 bit 6809 processor is fast enough for speeds like
76800 bps.
Nice stuff but a bit overkill to use for APRS...
Kind regards,
Henk.

By popular request, I've added a fixed position option to the latest
OpenTracker firmware. You now have the option of manually entering
coordinates for operation without a GPS. This is really handy for sites
that want to monitor battery voltage, for example. With the profile
switching options, you can set it up to transmit immediately when the input
voltage crosses a certain threshold, and use a comment string to report
'battery low' or 'on generator', as well as displaying the actual voltage in
the comment.
Hmm... do either Findu or aprsworld provide an email alert notification
service? For events other than emergency beacons, that is? Might be nice
to have the option of getting an email or SMS message when a monitored event
occurs.

I think this is what flexnet does....
http://www.nordlink.org/ftp/documentation/INP/inp3.pdf
I'm still reading, but so far, its looking like routing information is
published on air, and I'm not sure that is really what we want in APRS...
I'd prefer a passive method of route determination.

Scott,
just send a packet :
":EMAIL :yourcall@domain.net Battery Low!!!"
The email gateway will deliver it.

When used with a KISS TNC, does AGWPE need any flow control pins? doesn't
one of the pins (8 on a de-9 i think) tell that there is a device hooked to
a serial port?

Now I'm trying to run AGWPE 2001.38 .... It's pretty much behaving the
same as the other version did... won't talk to a serial TNC (or USB serial
tnc-x). Tells me "TNC No Present, Power TNC and press enter. I actually
have the sound card TNC running (both sides at 1200 baud), and have tried
to flip between John Hansen's USB TNC-X on com4 and a kpc3 (3 wire serial)
on com 1. I can talk to the KPC3 on com1 with hyper terminal just fine. I
am really stumped here!!! The motherboard is a VIA EDEN 500mhz. I've run
kpc3 in kiss mode with AGWPE before but it was on an old gateway which
would crash intermittantly, so I would prefer this newer faster motherboard.
