Which is why most people will stick to the old format which is suitable in
most situations. At least until more hardware and software support a new
type.
However if you are part of a SARS team of whatever and you need to track
the position of something to the nearest foot than you make sure every one
has equipment that can handle the new format.
I understand that you are trying to remain as compatible as possible for
everything and everyone. And I would agree to do so if the person was not
able to choose which format they wanted to tx. But if you have the choice
to use a less precise version that is compatible with everyone or a more
precise version that is compatible with only a few I don't see what the
problem is.
Personally I just see it as a cleaner more elegant solution.
But either way I'm not complaining. Simply commenting.
The only thing I personally would like is to have more people I talk to on
a daily basis use APRS. One of the great things about the D700 is that it
makes it convenient to leave one VFO for your beacon and the other for the
morning banter on the way to work. It's the reason I bought it. I use to
keep a seperate handheld with a tiny-track for my beacon. I'm much happier
with my D700.
Cheers,
Mike
