This gets very interesting... I tried and tried with the serial port built
into the motherboard and no luck. AGWPE would lock up on init every time
trying to talk to my kpc3. I then created a sound card modem as a test,
and AGWPE worked. I then installed a USB serial port as COM3, and it is
working. Must be a conflict with AGWPE and my motherboard serial driver.

findU also has a special page for this event:

http://b2v.findu.com/

This page has the advantage of instantly loading the most recent report for
each station, as well as showing what leg each team is on, where within the
leg the tracker is, and how old the report is. The disadvantage is new
positions are only seen on manually reloading or waiting for the three
minute reload interval.

Phil,
Nice page. As a suggestion, can you add who benefits from the b2v? That
would be a nice bit of information for your page!

Here is a link to a small webpage I made from the flight and a history file.

I see a Balloon flying in AZ right now as I type this 16:49:59 UTC.
KD7LMO-11

Is there any info about this anywhere???

It would sure be nice if someone could launch a WIKI balloon web page so
that launches could be known all over the country. Any info about a launch
would be better than none!

It's interesting to note that this "ballon" is going the opposite direction
from the surface winds at 105mph!

Arizona Near Space Research (ANSR) is pleased to announce the flight of
ANSR-18. This high altitude balloon flight will take place on Saturday,
April 17th at 7:15 AM MST (1415 UTC). The launch site is the east-west
soccer field on the grounds of Maricopa Unified School District at 45012 W.
Honeycutt in Maricopa, AZ. The launch crews will be arriving around 6:00 AM
MST (1300 UTC) to prepare.

All amateur radio operators within range are invited to participate in this
exciting flight. DX stations (>200 Miles), are especially invited to try to
make contacts through our crossband repeater. APRS data will be available
during the flight.

The balloon will be a 3000 gram weather balloon, filled with helium. The
expected burst altitude will be 90,000 feet or more. The flight is
anticipated to last about 2.5 hours from launch to touchdown.

Cross Band NB-FM Voice Repeater
Input: 145.560 MHz/162.2 Hz PL tone
Output: 445.525 MHz

APRS when repeater not in use on 445.950 MHz at 10, 20, 40, and 50
seconds GPS time via KD7LMO-11

Landing prediction after burst at 15 and 45 seconds GPS time via
KD7LMO-0

Linked to IRLP reflector 9255 * See Notes below

Microbeacon II APRS
445.950 MHz packet at 00 and 30 seconds GPS time via KD7LMO-11

Talk In Prior to launch / Tracking As Required
Pinal Peak, 147.200 MHz/110.9 Hz PL tone

A mobile cross band Digipeater will repeat the APRS data to the 144.390 MHz
standard APRS frequency and thus will be I-GATED to the Internet for out of
area trackers. You will be able to check www.finddu.com for in-flight
position information.

* NOTE on IRLP refelctor. When you connect, the node will report you are
connected to the Western States Refelector 925 on channel 5. This channel
has been reserved for high altitude balloon flights. Remember to key your
transmitter for 2 seconds BEFORE you begin to talk. Also, when you join the
node, please listen 10-15 seconds before transmitting. The cross band
repeater is also used for our tracking and recovery team.

Question for the group.... should we change the icon for digipeaters who
use LANn-n? For South Carolina (SCn-n) I thought about a green star with S
overlaid, but that won't work for NCn-n, because start with a N overlaid
has been used before. So perhaps we just overlay an L on the green star to
indicate LANn-n?

Other news.... I just learned that AGWPE has a digipeater client which will
route aprs packets. Since we have a limit with kpc3 TNCs only using one
callsign for UIFLOOD and UITRACE, I asked the author of this digipeater
software if he would add multiple callsigns to UIFLOOD and UITRACE. The
software is called digiplex and is available at http://www.qsl.net/lu7did/

Who used 147.24 to coordinate a balloon launch Saturday morning? We're all
wondering, as we could hear some of the chatter here in Clovis, New Mexico.

Thanks,
Earl
