Is there anyone on this list that uses APRS in conjunction with RDF or more
specifically ELT DFing?
If so I am interested to hear specifics about the set up and experiences.

Here is a copy of the APRS FireNet servers:

kk6rw.no-ip.org:14579;WXSrv Only Port: GIGHWA
kk6rw.no-ip.org:14580;User definable Filter Port: GIGHWA
clspco.firenet.us:2023;Full feed Port: CLSPCO

clspco.firenet.us:10152;Full feed No-Echo Port: CLSPCO
clspco.firenet.us:14579;WXSvr only Port: CLSPCO
You can copy and paste these in your APRServer.txt file or download the file
at http://www.wa6oft.com/APRServe.txt
If you have not tried the FireNet servers and you are interested in things
like:
Weather
Flooding
Fire
Earthquakes
Home Land Security levels
Ocean Buoy's and ships
Fire Watches from the Wxsvr
Satellite Earth Observations
along with the normal APRS-IS stuff, give them a try! FireNet processes
roughly 25,000 extra objects per hour data you do not see on the APRS-IS.
And, with properly designed symbols the "Sea of Blue" you might see becomes
an "Ocean of Pleasure" for the APRS enthusiast!

What is the significance of "No-Echo"?

I've been using firenet to test the county shape files on my Windows CD
Xastir install -- is there a magic incantation for the User defined filter
that would pass only the weather warnings and none of the rest of the "sea
of blue"?
Thanks,
Bill

Use the " filter t/n ' ie: 'type nws' and you should only get nws weather
messages.

Hi Bill,
I'll let Pete answer that one. See more below....

Firenet has a unique port that just sends WXSvr data This is port 14579.
The program which feeds Firenet.us, port 14579 captures and maintains lists
of objects originated from WXSvr in a file on the server. Canceled /
killed, expired objects are removed from this list automatically. The 14579
feed contains only active WxSvr
objects and is a metered output to connecting users, not a raw data dump.
This port is not a function of JavAPRSSrvr. This differs from a history dump
since it maintains a current list of WxSvr objects.
The Firenet 14579 port is uni-directional. One-way, in other words. It is an
output port only and users can not send data through this port.
Connecting users are supplied with a metered output and if users wish to
remain connected, will receive WXsvr data in near real-time! So, connect get
the metered feed, disconnect, or stay connected and monitor the feed
continuosly!
You can connect here and within just a few minutes get all the current WXSvr
packets. if this is the port you are using, and you see more than Wxsvr
data, that's possible too because of mis-configuration of the port at one of
the servers in which case, I'd like to know about so that we can correct it.
In fact, after I push send, I am going to check firenet.us!

Thanks folks, This will make the testing much easier.

An echo port (the original APRServe port 23 and AHub's port 2023) loops
the data sent to it from a client back to that client. This allows for
some potentially simpler diagnostics at the individual client end, but
can complicate the client code. It is also not recommended for servers
to connect to an echo port because, by definition, they loop data back
to the server. Servers with loop detection will flag these packets as
error packets.
As of this time, most core server ports and most tier 2 server ports are
no-echo ports.
