Does anyone know what pinout is used on the TK-780? Is it the same as the
other RJ45-equipped models? PTT polarity?
Thanks..

I have an old KPC-2, version 2. Is it possible to run APRS with it? If so,
what are some good settings??

Hi All,
Here is the information I promised in January on Site Alert.
Site Alert is used to provide local site information from a remote
UI-DIGI APRS Digipeater site via APRS Telemetry data.
The data is transmitted every 30 minutes and includes the average of
four supply voltage readings, current in building temperature, RF
traffic load (optional) and the current mode of the Site Alert
Should the average voltage fall below a pre-programmed value Site Alert
will disable the Digi' PTT path until the average voltage reaches the
upper pre-programmed value. It will however re-enable the PTT for its
own transmissions. The battery alarm or the external alarm inputs will
cause an APRS Item to be transmitted and an APRS Message sent.
More details on Site Alert can be found at
http://www.aprs.net.au/Site%20Alert%203%20Web_2.htm
Cheers

Hi,
I'm in the process of revising our local ARPS RF Network (about 14
Digipeaters) and was wondering if I should feed the TNC Audio through the
Radio's Pre-emphasis / De-emphasis circuit or bypass it. The digi TNCs use
are MFJ1270Bs and the radios are Phillips FM828s.
Most of the mobile radios on the network are Kenwood D700s.
Do the D700s use Pre-emphasis / De-emphasis?
Cheers

Working on setting up a PC for my Weather Station/S-Gate. Something hit me
about the weather data going directly to the IS (not going over RF). If my
weather station updates every minute with new data would there be a problem
with sending a weather packet directly to the IS every minute and keeping
the RF side at 5 minutes? I can see the PROs to such a setup but are there
any CONs?

I was wondering if there was APRS activity on 70cm in the US.

Does any one know the bandwidth of dual band On The Glass antennas? Would
like 2meters plus (may be up to 155) and also 448 to 468mhz. These seem to
be difficult to find. Does the RS antenna cover this range???

My first inclination is to set KISS ON and go for it!

Eric,
You should reconsider sending weather updates to the IS every minute.
You should reconsider sending weather beacons on RF every 5 minutes as
well... I send an RF weather beacon every 20 minutes, which has been
recommended for quite a while, other times as necessary.
I wonder who will be buying all the hard disks for Findu's databases,
and APRSWorld's, or whoever else is storing data, if all of us weather
stations started this, :-)
It isn't as if it goes in on one end and falls into the bit basket at
the other end..
Best Regards,
Robbie

I'm not sure who recommended that, I send 3 minutes on Inet and 5 minutes
on RF, and these rates I consider reasonable. Like path lengths, the RF
issue is a local issue, but 20 minutes seems a little long for weather
data.
This is actually a topical issue:

With the APRS Weather Network being one of the feeds into the NWS, I think
a rate faster than 20 minutes is a good thing.

Well, last year the weather data totaled 72.7 million reports, which
translates to 5.1GB with another 1GB for a call and time index. I've saved
every weather report findU has ever handled, the total over the 4 years,
including indices is only 15GB. findU presently has 92GB free space, so
speaking only for findU, it will not be a problem.

Interesting and thanks for your input Steve.. I had waited a while
before commenting hopeing you or somebody would respond to Erik's request.
I did read it here sometime ago about weather stations transmitting too
often with insignificant changes in data.
My comments about the disk space was as I said, I remember being able to
get many more days of raw data of my trips from findu, and see where you
now purge in 10 days? I assumed it was because of the tremendous
increase in IS activity.
I had not even turned on my beacon to the internet feed, I was allowing
our local I-Gates to do the honors, :-) Now I guess I will reconsider..
Thanks for your comments Steve and 73.
Robbie
