My 1976 HP catalog lists the 5302A 50MHz Universal counter module. It has
lots of specs but I don't see anything about operating voltage, in either
the plug-in or the 5300 mainframe listings.

Email me direct if you want to know what I have.

I picked this up on the wire yesterday and have seen no mention about this
on any of the sig's other than what ARRL has said in their news letter!

http://www.infoworld.com/article/04/03/02/HNbroadbandservice_1.html

I had been thinking about overhead power lines...but buried power lines will
be just as disruptive!

Then the penny dropped! My whole house is electric!

Does anyone know for sure apart from the known interference to HF if this
will also affect your 2 meter radio and of course the very finely tuned
squelch to hear those distant stations on APRS on 144.390 ???

What a horrible thought!

I agree completely Dennis!

I recently noticed that I was gating a mobile running a Tiny Tracker from
200 miles away! COOL I thought!
Then I looked at his packet path....WIDE7-7,IGATE
OH NO! I thought!

I looked the guy up and suggested a more refined path of WIDE2-2 or 3-3.

He replied that "he felt compelled" to use the WIDE7-7 for its better
results across country!

He also told me about 12 others in his Explorer group were building Tiny
Trackers and he intimated that they would ALL run WIDE7-7,IGATE

At this point I felt compelled to drink a very long cold beer and drag out
the instructions for LL on my TNC!

3 days hence and not a word back from this ham who I kindly sent a 3 hour
email to explaining the pros and cons of such a long path!

I foresee the DARK SIDE coming to Phoenix very soon!

One problem that I come up against time and time again is the general lack
of written information on APRS at the book stores and libraries.

I always give the usual pointers to newbie's when I come across them, but to
many the 100 pages on the APRS SPEC seem like a secret manual for the sleep
deprived.

Older books now out of print are not current with today's thinking (even if
you could find one)!!

The same ham tells me that he has done better than casual research on the
internet and every thing he has read says use a path like....WIDE2-2 or
RELAY,WIDE2-2 but he says "THEY" do not explain why you should use this
path!

I would like to meet "THEY" and tell them a thing or to! <G>

I feel so much better now I got that of my chest!

Why do they tack on IGATE at the end? Isn't internet feed automatic and
IGATE is a waste?

Curious,

Ignorance. Same problem happens with SGATE.

We really need a way to intercept the packets on the IS and filter them OUT!
That is the only way to get these people to change. And I don't want to
hear anything about "this is what I want from my station... you shouldn't
tell me how to use my own equipment" because that just comes from an
uneducated user. People out there that use WIDE7-7, or the like, are only
thinking about themselves and not how that path affects other users on the
network.

EARL! You are worried about the IGATE on the end of the packet being a
waste?!? <g>

Yes, internet feed is automatic and the IGATE is not needed.
