Hello,
I am running a local FBB because I have a cable TV Internet connection at
home. The ability to make telnet forwarding to free the frequencies was a
compelling argument to convince me to sing up for the task. Now that I have
a machine 24 hrs powered on and 24 hrs on-line, I wondered how do I make
the most of the hardware. I would guess that setting up a BPQ node will
make me able to run and APRS application like UI-VIEW with the uidigi
features and also the Internet gateway.
But the main issue is: how do I give simple packet users the ability to get
APRS services from the BBS? It this possible? and what kind of services can
I provide?
I would be pleased if somebody can point me to some web pages related to my
questions. Also I will like to get in touch with some body that can provide
me advice in this matter.
Thanks in advance to all for your attention and time to my questions. I
apologizes for my English, as is not among my top skills.
Just to mention, I am in daily digest mode.

Does anyone have any contact or know how to reach KC0RIA
I have an interest in reaching him on a few different items.
1. He appears to run a Digi called "Watrdg". This digi has no reliable path
to an I-Gate (LOTS of hops to the closest one).
(I run an I-Gate and digi that are relatively close to his AS THE
CROW FLIES!)
2. His path in his mobile is not very friendly....
"KC0RIA-3>S9SWSY,RELAY*,RELAY,WIDE,WIDE,WIDE,qAo,K0ANI-9:'pR$!5Sk/]"Fy}"
His Digi and QRZ address are both in Montrose, Colorado. There is not a
phone book listing with the same name and address.
I would prefer an email address.
Sorry to broadcast this to such a wide audience!
Thanks,

If you go to www.switchboard.com and search in Montrose, Co for
the last name of Young, you get 28 listings. One of them has the first
name of Mark, but is not on Oak Grove Road. You might give that one a
phone call and see if it's the right person.

I asked this once before and was unable to get an answer.
For an application here in Michigan I need to change the TOCALL of two
WinAPRS systems from APW246 VIA WIDE2-2 to APWX or something else VIA
WIDE2-2.
Is this a configurable setting in WinAPRS? Can someone send me a screen
shot?

I need to know if linux kernel 2.4.20-20.9 supports ax25. Would like to
try aprs on my linux box, but I don't where or how to find out what a
Redhat kernel supports. I would try (and have) other sources, but maybe
I'll have better luck here.

Just put an UNPROTO line in your INITVHF.TNC file and WinAPRS will
set it when it initializes the TNC.

PCsat seems in Excellent health. But it depends on You.
PCsat spends more than half its life in DEEP DISCHARGE cycles from which
it cannot recover until it gets full Sun for a few orbits and can be
commanded (and remember) to keep its spare RX and TX's off. PCsat was
in full Sun for 2 weeks over the holidays and although it is back to
maximum (35%) eclipses on every orbit now, she appears to be in good
health.
Several things are going on:
1) She is now back in MAX (35%) eclipse season! yet running strong.
2) As long as she doesnt reset, she rememebrs to keep spare loads OFF.
3) Northern Hemisphere (USA and Europe) passes are in mid afternoon
4) So USA/Europe ops are occurring with best solar panel towards sun
5) Night passes (USA/EUR) are after 2 AM so low use in dark when risky
6) If she resets, spare RX and TX come on and she dies till May
BUT! What kills us every time is a prime-time EVENING European pass. And
these are coming up in about 2 weeks or so. THere is little difference
between USA and European ops, but there are just more of them that use
PCsat.
So, if we can get EVERYONE everywhere to only operate PCsat between the
hours of Sunrise and Sunset in their area, then PCsat should operate
indefinately. But all it takes is several packets in a row in the dark to
cause a dip in bus voltage and a reset and all is lost till MAY.
PCsat has no computer or controller on board. Just a TNC in a box, so
we cannot schedule her for the 14 day/dark schedules per day...
Two rules will keep us out of trouble:
1) No operation at night after 1 hour past sunset and before sunrise
2) No unattended operations. (dont waste power if you are not there)
This will help avoid a crash due to high loads in the dark and loss of the
bird till May.

all kernels I have encountered the last 2 years, Suse, Mandrake, Redhat have
supported it. And I have used them.
You won't be sorry for using linux !!!
