I reposted Bob's message on our NW APRS SIG and since then I have been
hearing several HOME STATIONS on my D700.
Folks, the 100 CTCS tone is intended to be broadcasted by MOBILE STATIONS
only, not home stations. So, if you transmit a tone of 100 on your home
stationary stations, please turn it off.
Bob B, if I am mistaken, please set me straight.
Thanks,
Herb, KB7UVC

Specifically mobiles that are listening for it, not just trackers or
mobiles without voice capability on 2 meters.

I recently got a KPC3+. It came with a CD ROM that had the manual and
schematic. The three transistors that you see, Q1, Q2, and Q3 are PTT,
CTLA, and CTLB. They are all a 2N7000.
This is the part as shown on the schematic and also listed in the parts
list near the end of the manual.
I will mail you the schematic in a separate message. I'm posting this to
give others a chance to jump in should anyone wish to comment.

Great! Q1 is PTT... I was able to see the 2N2700 and I am hoping that
any old NPN will do it, but maybe it is a PNP. I'll have to see if I can
look it up. At least I only have to unsolder 1 transistor instead of 3.
I found 1 burned trace, fixed that but I was not lucky enough, I guess
it held long enough to take the transistor out. Hope that is the only
thing.
Like I said if I key the mic then key the TNC I hear a packet so that is
what I am assuming. I look forward to the schematic, I maybe have 1 hr
tomorrow to try to get it fixed before the trip.

I have 2N7000's on hand, if you give me an address, I'll mail you a couple.
