You might also look at http://www.mini-box.com/
They've got an automotive interface/sequencer widget that goes between auto
12V and the 12V input ATX power supply. (and they've got 60 and 70W
supplies that snap directly onto the ATX connector, as well (a bit
different form factor than some of the other vendors).
The automotive adapter, the 12V input PS, a CF adapter, and you're pretty
well set up. Sound card is built into the mini-itx, so you should be able
to run something like the 'AGW soundcard TNC.
Another idea would be to run the mini-itx off a sealed battery of some sort
(i.e. VRLA or AGM) that is charged off the vehicle supply by any one of the
12V<>12V chargers. I've been fooling with a Xantrex EchoCharger to charge a
full size deep cycle to run a HF rig in my car. I haven't noticed any real
obvious spurs from the charger yet, but I also haven't operated enough to
pull the radio battery down very far. In any event, the Xantrex (which is
$100+) has some filtering and voltage regulation built into it.

Interesting that you mention this.
In discussions at the end of the US Weather Research Program meetings here
in Boulder, the folks that assimilate and redistrbute the APRS Weather data
at NOAA's Forecast Systems Lab, the National Weather Service, and I were
discussing mobile weather stations.
We're thinking truckers, and specifically, locating a simple
temp/pressure/humidity packate similar to the K0RX uWx board, behind the
aerodynamic wind screens we see atop the tractor cabs. As an aside, we all
agreed that anemometry would be a cheap thrill, so we're not asking for
that.
If there's any truckers interested in doing this, and then registering as a
Citizen's Weather station, and providing mobile data, please contact me
off-line.

As long as you're going digital for all but temp, why not go digital there
as well? You can pick up Dallas Semi '1-wire' temp sensors cheap
enough. And if you are doing a 'dedicated application' where the part
is on a processor pin, the code is simple. Just send bits and read bits
routines. All the ID, configuration, and serial number hassles go away
when you KNOW there's only that one part on one pin of the processor.
I use the DS1820 series parts on a Z8+ in my stuff.

I've tried to get this to the list THREE TIMES NOW!
Is there something going on with the weather maps at Findu? They don't
seem to be working any more.
Thanks,

So tell me what link you used -- the one I've used for many months
( http://www.findu.com/cgi-bin/find.cgi?kd5xb-2&radar=*** ) no longer works.

I have been connecting to the network without any problem for several
months. But when I try to connect to it now I'm getting "TCP open failed". I
am running WinAPRS2.6.1 on a PII with Win88SE. I have rebooted and still am
having a problem. Where do I go next?
Thanks,

AH HA! The slightest change...
Thanks, that did it.

Does anyone know where I can find a good, modern design for an APRS 2-meter
transmitter that'll put out anything between 10 and 300 mw? I browse
through the RF sections of Maxim/Dallas or Analog's sites and they've got
all sorts of nifty integrated devices, but RF design isn't really my area.
Most of what I do find is for HF QRP.
Hams can't resist playing with new technology, and I know there have to be
designs out there using far fewer parts than the old homebrew designs. I
just can't find them. Can someone point me in the right direction?
Thanks...

Unless you want to build it yourself (an admirable goal), just
find someone with an Icom 2100H that has "died". I guess it's fairly
common for the power output to drop to almost nothin'...

I'd rather have a schematic and be able to integrate it with a tracker on a
single board. Crystal controlled is fine, but I wouldn't mind too much
shelling out $20 for a DDS chip. Ramsey sells a rocket transmitter board,
and that's generally the sort of thing I'm looking for, but it's expensive
and for balloon use I'd want more than 10 mw power.
