I run two solar powered sites. One uses the HTX-202 & KPC-3, the other an
IC-24 Dual Band HT and KPC-3. No relays, no problems.
Mobile rigs are WAY to hungry for RX power consumption. The rig RX's 24/7
only briefly TX'ing depending upon height and users. Good quality antenna,
coax, and 5 watts works great for me. One is co located at the repeater
site, (output on 145.15) w/o any problems.
Good quality panels will produce power even on cloudy days. I've noticed
the flexiable panels (Solarex type) don't produce as much power on cloudy
days.
Batteries need to provide enough power to get through long winter nights
and cloudy days. Bigger is better! One site uses a 17Ah gell cell, since
adding water to the battery would be difficult once snow is on the ground.
Just my humble opinion and what has worked for me...

Subject: Proper Digipeater Settings

Hello,
I am farely experienced with APRS but setting up a digipeater is new to me.
I have the Kantronics KPC-3+ with version 9.0 memory. I've seen all the
websites out on the net with examples of how they setup their digipeater.
Can anyone point me in a good direction that explains what each setting
(for APRS) does so I know how to set mine up properly? I appreciate any
help you could give.
Thanks in advance.
