Bob,
I find the links to the Range Scales don't work for me.. I am running
Netscape 7.1, latest upgrades to W2K, When I cursor to or click on them,
it just stares at and does nothing, :=)

You can have 3 pre-programmed locations, for example home, work and you
second house during the weekend. Saves you looking it up with a GPS and
punching it in over and over...

Exactly. Some GPSses allow more digits in waypoint-in now. It used to be 6
positions and that's why this was fixed programmed in the TH-D7A/E. If your
GPS only takes 6 then set it to 6 (or off if you don't want to get all
these waypoints in you GPS). If you are curious, connect a PC to the GPS
port and read what comes out (4800 baud, 8 bit, no parity data). You will
see what changes the setting will have.

Guess so.

Normally you only receive messages addressed to you (with your station
call) and bulletins. With this you can also receive messages people adress
to pseudo adresses like "ALL". So they are not adressed to a specific
person but just thrown into the air. So with ALL,QST,CQ and KWD a message
will enter the list when its send to ALL or to QST or to CQ or to KWD. If
somebody sends a message to the call "ABC" then you will not see it unless
you also include ABC in the list.
I guess important things like tornados will be send as bulletins (BLN) so
everybody will see it, BLN is a kind of group where everybody is member off.
Note that in all these cases additional addressing may be present, if you
have ALL in the list then you will also see the messages send to ALLXYZ.

KWD would only be data from other users that also have KWD set as their
group designator. So are the others.

Isn't there an off? Otherwise select ALL, although I find it misleading
"ALL" could also be a closed group...

Normally it the unproto adress starts with AP, unless you are using it in a
closed group, then it should start with the letters that are used by the
closed group. The third letter specifies the type of APRS station, K is
Kenwood. The rest is a version number, in your case it should be 002 since
this is the second type TH-D7. You can change it to APRS if you want, als
long as it starts with AP it will work.

It just specified how many times your packet is repeated on RF. With
RELAY,WIDE it is two times, with RELAY,WIDE2-2 it is 3 times. Aparently two
times is enough for you to get on the internet stream.
>7. Status text not to get confused with POS COMMENT. We have again a

Just like POS1, POS2, POS2 you can prepare 3 texts you frequently use so
you don't have to type it in over and over again.

You only need a -14 or -7 is you do not transmit an icon. Kenwoods transmit
the icon so the station SSID doesn't matter.
>9. What is and how do I use POS AMBIGU? Which I have set to off. If
>someone can explain this one great.
Ambiguity. If you don't know the position exactly you can put your best
guess in the POS setting. With ambiguity you can then select the guess how
accurate your position is so the viewers know that you are somewhere in the
area but not exactly at the location you punched in. When you know your
exact location set it off.
I read over it, you had something about "mile". In the old TH-D7 you had
UNIT that switched the km/mile/cm/inch and degrees C and F at the same
time. In the new TH-D7 these are separated so you can have miles/inches and
degrees C at the same time.
Good luck with your TH-D7A(G) (I don't even have one, I own a TH-D7E
without (G) enhancements).
Kind regards,
Henk.

Ah, I just found it, File specs for NETSCAPE have to use / instead of
\ as separators. Internet explorer doesnt care apparently. I just fixed
it. Try again...

Yes, I do not expect to see the source callsign on the map, it is just
clutter (though it must be available elsewhere), but the viewer must be
able to distinguish HIS objects from an object someone else is reporting.
This is because at any instant (when you aren't looking) someone can take
over your object and MOVE it. THus something VISUALLY on that ICON must
convey that change in ownership. In APRSdos a SYMBOL uplinked by someone
else is VIOLET. A SYMBOL uplinked by you is YELLOW. And it changes live
if ownership changes.
DISCLAIMER: My use of APRSdos as an example is not an endorsement or an
encouragement for anyone to use APRSdos. It is only used as an exmaple
because to my knowledge it is the only APRS program that properly displays
that distinction on the SYMBOL itself. Use what ever program you want.
But ownership of OBJECTS or lack-thereof is fundamental to APRS Objects.

Yes, I think you got it exactly. Thanks

And while dabbling with it, I couldn't resist then also adding the ICON as
well including the color background (in this case, showing CYAN meaning a
moving station)...
