Anyway I can make a cable to connect my TNCs to a USB Hub instead of
Serial Ports so I can use multiple TNCs on the same computer?

No.
You can use an edgeport to get there. 2,4, and 8 port versions.

Does this also mean that ambigious positions are rejected (where a portion
of lat/long is filled witb blanks instead of digits)? Or is that because
this is the "somewhat simplified code"?
Kind regards,
Henk.

Yes. They are called USB to serial cables. Just use generic cable to
plug as many TNCs as you want into the hub.
But remember, while the serial port appears in Windows or other 'protected'
software, it will NOT appear in DOS. At least, not 'generically'. But
then, since there were only 2 'standard' com ports that work in DOS anyway,
that's not an issue. (And yes, I DO know that a lot of machines had 4, but
they couldn't operate all at the same time in a 'generic' way. The closest
any of the 'more than 2' solutions came to working 'generically' was when
you had two built-in com ports and you added 2 more via PCMCIA cards. All
the other solutions to the problem you had to 'custom pick' your IRQs, and
some software wouldn't work with some configurations, even with the PCMCIA
solution.)

Its simply a test feature to force the HT to send a single tone. The
tones are nothing in particular, but just something to let the DEVIATION
be tested on a single tone...

Somewhat simplified, here is the actual regex, a scarier beast for people not
used to looking at them:
m/(\d\d[\d ][\d ]\.[\d ][\d ])([NS])(.)(\d{3}[\d ][\d ]\.[\d ][\d ])([EW])(.)/

I ran the full feed last night for around an hour. Did a filter for FIRE
and a few other objects this morning.
Very impressive!
Who maintains the information within the FIRE objects? The ones with the %
containment?

Frank,
The FIRENET Team maintains the system!!! :) Jim, WA6OFT, is one of the ring
leaders and I am just one of the grunts out there. Glad you like the data.
If you have any questions related to the FIRENET data or service, feel free
to shoot an email this way!

Hi Frank!
The fire data is maintained by the USDAFS and a file is provided to for
FireNet shortly after the official reports come out (pretty much automated).
The Fire data contained within the packets are official numbers.

I'd like to see the local FIRENET fire objects gated to RF in my area (Los
Angeles and San Bernardino). I'll look into this between now and the next
fire season.

Was looking for some information about doing a ballon package launch for
my local ham club/APRS groups. Not looking for anything too fancy to
start, just maybe a APRS tracker and a friend has offered a mini-ATV
transmitter.
After watching KG4UWE-15 for a hour or two on Saturday I thought I might
be able to get some new people out with a ballon/APRS/foxhunt combo
since we would use APRS to foxhunt the ballon package as well as demo
ATV in the process.

Just keep in mind that DF'ing a very short periodic beacon is not the
easiest thing to do...

Although, a very short audible beacon (not RF) helps when you get close to
the payload in the recovery mode and helps attract attention from anybody
nearby. This could help increase the recovery success. Just make sure you
post a reward with contact information. Anybody who hears the audible
beacon will probably freak out and call the police. The BalloonSat team had
one land in a lake as it was spotted by several boaters. The Coast Guard
immediately got on it as it was floating in the water.
During the chase for the BalloonSat IV this weekend we heard the beacon
from a second non-APRS payload launched 30 minutes later as we were headed
home. We found it in complete darkness with a very low power 70cm telemetry
beacon. The beacon was continuous which was very helpful.
