Well then the dumb trackers are not going to see the SPAM bulletins to
tell them what path to use then either. So what good is the SPAM?
Yes, I have the stats. In APRSdos, everytime I hit JUST-MOBILES command,
I get a list and 80% or so of every one in the system is a Kenwood. This
is in Maryland. Yes, I will accept the fact that there may be areas with
a higher percentage of stand-alone trackers, but again, SPAM messages wont
get to them.
Oh, and I see less than 5% are actualy laptop mobile... (in my area)

So why send SPAM bulletins all day long to the 92-93% of mobiles that
can't read bulletins anyway!?

Show me any other APRS radio that gives me front-panel APRS and I'll
support it in a heartbeat! And I'll also find ways to make sure that
short-sighted basement hackers wont destroy its functionality by
hacking away and undermining its integrity to deliver meaningful
information to the user.
How about putting some of that creative energy into geting the GARMIN RINO
onto APRS. Ill support that in a heart beat too... HAM-HUDS, TINY
TRACKERs, all of these are GREAT things! But I dont think that HAM-HUD
users want to receive SPAM on their mobiles either...

So you want a mobile communications device to receive greater volumes
of SPAM? and you call that progress?

I hope that others are not thinking so narromindedly and ignoring the
mobile user and his needs...

Yes, that is what the "take control of your digi, new n-N paradigm" is all
about. It controls flooding by network design, yet does not inhibit the
user from using whatever path he needs when he needs it to get from point
A to point B, and to do it in a deterministic manner.

This will show on the Kenwood mobile just fine but will show up on Kenwood

You bet! We have unbelievably verbose packets on the air...

Yep, we need more of this kind of thinking...

There always has been. I think it is 37 characters of text. Only problem
is that WinAPRS refused to accept that standard. The standard for STATUS
is womthing like 67 characetrs (though Kenwoods only display 64)...

Compared to some of the crap already floating around, I wouldn't mind
receiving these types of messages on my Hamhud.
There might be a better way of communicating this info but restricting
ourselves because of the limitations of one manufacturers product is
detrimental to the advancement of the hobby.

I too used the Astron RS-35M trouble free until this summer with my
TS-440S. I purchased both new in 1988. This year the ps finally gave up the
ghost - it blows the fuse when I turn it on. Not knowing how to fix it and
needing a replacement like right now I purchased the Astron SS-30M. 1/4 the
weight and 1/2 the size. It's a switching type of course. Will it last 15
years too? I dunno.

How many bulletins do you want to have to go through each time you get in
the car? You tell us.

Is there a current push to have Kenwood upgrade the firmware in the D700s
and the D7As? It shouldn't be that hard to do a chip upgrade, IMO.
