As I posted before...

    1 - +power
    2 - TxDat
    3 - RxDat
    4 - ???
    5 - Ground
    6 - ???

Although I think the pin 1 thing is a legacy and not implemented at all.

I like the idea Lance had for putting the regulator on the output of the
full wave bridge. It appears the FWB is a polarity protection so that
the unit will accept EITHER polarity and function. That means 6v in
yields about 5v out, so the regulator right there is fine. I suspect that
a diode in series with the output would prevent the unit from 'crashing'
with loss of power. Especially if batteries were left in place.

That brings up a question. What happens if batteries are left in place?
Will the external power apply across the batteries? If not, then a simple
diode in series with the regulator output would allow the batteries to
'kick in' and maintain things when the main external power is removed.

And since 3 penlights are only 4.5v or so, it would be acceptable to
have a diode drop on the 78L05.

I'm picking up 2 connectors for my Palm IIIc next week, and I'm going to
build a cradle for it to drop into. In the base of the cradle I'll put a
7805 for the Palm. I'm debating right now letting 12v go up the phone wire
to the RJ and putting a 78L05 and diode in the unit, or maybe feeding 5V up
the line from a separate 78L05. If I do that, I can put a diode in the
unit...

Oh, one other question... I wonder what the chip is right by the RJ on the
other side of the PCB. I'll have to check it out... Mike

I don't have one in front of me right now, but isn't that the RS-232
transceiver? You can pull that out and bridge the appropriate pads if you
want non-inverted, TTL-level output.

More marginally useless info: Keep-alive current (when green light is off)
measures 18 microamps on mine. Also, when placed 1 foot away from my
permanently installed tracker antenna, the RS unit QRMs my GPS and it loses
lock. Haven't checked to see if the RS also loses the satellites.

Wayne, KE7KU, is also known as WX7YUM on APRS. Many years ago, Wayne
introduced me to APRS and the SkyWarn program. Yuma is a small dent in the
southwestern corner of Arizona, with a full-time population of 60,000.
There are over 440 registered licensed hams in Yuma, which per capita, is a
lot of hams!

The service Wayne has given our community is remarkable. There is one WX
station in Yuma on APRS... Wayne's!

I recently added a link to my webserver called 'Yuma Weather'. Wayne
uploads data and stats using WX-Display. Very impressive.

After a little thinking and a bit of discussion with Lance Cotton KJ5O, I
think I have a plan laid out for the digitravellers with a Tinytrack
installed with it.

As time permits... I am going to mount a tinytrack inside the battery case
of the digitraveller. Install 7805 inside like Lance mentioned earlier.
Then use the modular connector for all of the external connections to the
radio/power source/computer.
Using pins:
1) PTT
2) GPS TX
3) 9-30V+
4) TX audio
5) GND
6) RX audio / carrier detect

Then make various cables to interface it with other devices. It can be
used with an HT, mobile, or computer depending on the other end.

I plan to use a jumper for "SW1" on the tiny track to change configurations
and another jumper to switch out the function of pin 1,4, or 6 to the tiny
track "serial in" to be able to program the TT.

This way other than lack of internal battery power the digitraveller still
works and looks completely as it did in it's stock version. It just has a
few more features depending on the cable used. ;)

Subject: Y-Cable?

Is there a "Y" cable available, in a 5-pin DIN configuration, that would
allow 1 TNC-2 to feed 2 transceivers simultaneously? If so, where?

Thanks,
Earl
