Subject: WinAprs 2.72 Tiger maps

Anyone have better instructions on how (directory structure, etc) to set
up and access Tiger maps within WinAprs 2.72. The built in Docs don't
say much.

Maybe the local clubs can do a tuning clinic... get your deviation and
transmit delay set properly, and have your path settings reviewed...

YES, because it is what 95% of the USA APRS DIGIPEATERS are MADE OF.

>KISS doesn't have DWAIT nor a method to switch the PERSIS.

The version of SA bundled with the Digitraveller is a varient of the
new-style "SA Deluxe/SA 2003/SA2004" that shares the same clunky sluggish
buggy user interface that TopoUSA and 3D Topo Quads uses. FAR more
difficult and distracting to use while driving than the classic SA up to
Ver 9.0 (And none of 'em are usable with any APRS application. SA
"Classic" works perfectly with APRSplus. )

Basically just put the maps in your Tiger directory under the WinAPRS
directory and WinAPRS will find them. Youc an even index them in
sub-directories however you want, but as long as they are in that Tiger
directory, you should be ok. That is how I understood it when I saw this
version for the first time at Dayton. That is how I put the map files in
and I haven't had a problem with it yet.

Don't forget the 70cm band "Line A" for those of us near the Canadian
border...

The FCC Part §97.303 Frequency Sharing Requirements: (f) In the 70 cm.
band: (1) No amateur station shall transmit from north of Line A in the
420-430 MHz segment.

The Legal Description of Line A was found in FCC Part 97, and is stated as:

§97.3 Definitions. (29) Line A. Begins at Aberdeen, WA, running by
great circle arc to the intersection of 48º N, 120º W, thence along
parallel 48º N, to the intersection of 95º W, thence by great circle
arc through the southernmost point of Duluth, MN, thence by great
    circle arc to 45º N, 85º W, thence southward along meridian 85º W,
to its intersection with parallel 41º N, thence along parallel 41º
N, to its intersection with meridian 82º W, thence by great circle
arc through the southernmost point of Bangor, ME, thence by great
circle arc through the southernmost point of
Searsport, ME, at which point it terminates.

I'll try this comment again, in response to Bob's comment below:

If APRSDOS (or a version of it) supported using a KISS TNC (or a TNC in
KISS mode), APRSDOS would be able to do the right thing internally, i.e.
callsign substitution/insertion.

I borrowed a meter to set my TNC. Now, where can you get a meter for 20
dollars to check your deviation. I would like to get one.

I think part of my success in working the ISS and MIR is that my deviation
was set with a meter and not by ear.

I'm about to remove APRSDOS from my HP-100lx device simply because APRSDOS
doesn't support KISS...

JnosAPRS supports KISS and should do well enough to allow me to both play
APRS and do packet Email from the mobile.
