I've just been having a listen on the 3/4/5Mhz tropical bands to see what
I can hear and I was quite surprised.

4.770 Nigeria
4.800 China
4.820 China (Beijing)
4.845 Mauritania, Africa
4.940 China (Beijing)
5.005 Equatorial Guinea

All very strong signals this evening (2000utc).

The station was my trolley station standing in the back yard !

There was an unidentified jammer on 3.920 (probably Iran) and on 5.090
an unidentified spook tx (not very strong).

Listening to these tropical stations is quite pleasant, quite nice music
from the African stations, beats the hell out of the tosh on the local
Bland FM stations.

And more to the point - it shows that there's some surprising propagation
to these areas that is *reliable* day after day.

And yet the 80/40m bands are often devoid of contacts to these areas
of the world.

It also shows what potential there is for the possible future 5Mhz band.

(Only a couple of months left for the UK NoV to expire) :(
