Hi Bob and readers,

Perhaps usage of bands is better explained by reason of propagation
characteristics as I had done in a previous bull. Simply put HF bands are
operated on a published schedule for long distance comms while VHF is for
short range offshore operation at any time. You won't find anyone
monitoring ch 16 out at sea but it's manditory for vessels so equipped
(acording to type and size) within a proscribed (forgot what it is)
distance from shore. On the other hand HF distress frequencies are
monitored acording to the afore mentioned schedule. One other important
note is the requirement for shore stations to monitor HF on scedule and
VHF 16 at all times and vessels to monitor the same while underway.

Hmmm, being the weekend as soon as I finish with the BBS I'll switch the
antenna to the scanner and listen to the Coast Guard vs. the Weekend
Warriors. (;->)
