Well....to some extent, Andy. I belong to Sea Rescue in my state of OZ. 27
mHz is available and used but the preference is for Channel 16 VHF. 27.880
mHz suffers a great deal from "skip" from other states, although not at
the present state of the sunspot cycle.. Sometimes when conditions are
good, it can be easier to contact Port Stephens on the NSW coast more than
2000 miles away, than a local boat a mile or so away.
