Australia has two marine bands outside of the internationally
allocated HF bands. A 4 Watt 27mHz AM band and the ITU VHF FM
band of approximately 157 mHz.
The 27 mHz channels are:-
1. 27680 for commercial organisations
2. 27720 professional fishing
3. 27820 professional fishing
4. 27860 distress supplementary
5. 27880 distress
6. 27900 non commercial organisations
7. 27910 non commercial organisations
8. 27940 non commercial organisations
9. 27960 non commercial organisations
10. 27980 recognised rescue organisations
I found two models available from one yacht chandlers priced
under 155 Australian (roughly 110 American). Neither claim to
be splash or water-proof.
Most weekend sailors and yachties prefer to pay twice that for
a VHF FM unit using a smaller antenna.
