Nice to "meet" you. It hardly racked my brain Hi. I instantly thought of
"peasant" when I read "peon". An Afrikaans word? I don't think so. Maybe a
bastardisation of a Latin word and commonly used by such, but not of their
making methinks. It is far too easy a word to recognize. Possibly from the
the Spanish, from the Latin, Greek, Phonecian, etc. Speaking of Afrikaans,
do you know just how long Afikaans has actually existed as a language? I
assume that the Boers were the first users, or were they? What was it
before it was called that if they used a version earlier, Dutch? Do you
know the origins of that language? Dutch? Latin? Spanish? Portugese? What?
I suppose one must look to the invasions of the past of the areas which
foster\ed the language. Any and all information on the subject is welcome,
at least by myself. SP if it is a pronblem for others. It is another
topic. Ah language. Wonderful stuff innit. Cheers from an ancient Roman
