Yes, Pete, the quotes from David were NOT from our Government's website.
It didn't have one. It was from some newspapers and from what we call
QANGOS an acronym which stands for something like Qasi autonomous
Government something or others - I can't recall the full name .Some of
these committees were made up of all sorts of political thought and need
not necessarily reflect the wishes of the people or the Government of the
day.

I was in discussion with a ham from the USA on packet a few years back
before the twin towers atrocity and he made a remark about the need to
drop a nuclear bomb on a certain Middle East country and wipe it out of
existence. I did not agree with his remarks but a week or so later I got a
letter posted in Geelong, near Melbourne, from what would certainly have
been a Middle Eastern gentleman who told me he was going to come over here
and murder me and rape and kill my wife and daughters. There were some
graphic and totally nasty sexual drawings on the page, showing him having
anal intercourse with the USA. I didn't make the offensive remark he
objected to but he obviously thought I did.
Two things worried me about this. (1) He obviously was on packet radio or
at least could read the messages and (2) he knew who I was and had my
postal address. KEEP POLITICS OUT OF HAM RADIO. Life's too short.

I took the letter to the police who told me their investigation would have
low priority. If this letter had come after the twin towers attack in NY
and the Bali bombings where so many Aussies lost their lives they may have
done something about it. However I heard no more. Politics should be taboo
in ham radio.

he does quote the source, and the source is the government website
of that country. Not hearsay of a journalist for a story or a
non-supporter ...
