Well, Pete, you don't paint a very pretty picture of your schools. What
you describe there would certainly not happen in the schools in this
state, and I would think would not happen in the schools in the other
states either. Any teacher dealing with a student like that would be
dismissed. It would be a criminal offence here.

Even back in my 30 years in a senior administrative position in my
schools when it was legal to use the cane any abuse of students by over
use of that instrument of punishment resulted in the teacher being taken
out of the classroom and given a job either in the correspondence school
where there as no contact with students or given a job issuing stock and
materials or in extreme cases dismissed. .Unfortunately the problem in
some of our high schools today is the exact opposite where teachers have
been assaulted by a student, but even that is rare, and in those cases the
student could be expelled or disciplined in some other way, not physical.
Each of our states has its own education system so what I say here is
about my state, but I think much the same applies in the other states.

As for students "fearing teachers", we did in the old days fear some
teachers who used the cane frequently but that was 80 years ago and those
days have long passed. Relationships between teacher and student here are
very good.I never heard of any cover ups here either. I think the parent
body would have had something to sa about that. There are Parents and
Citizens Associations attached to every school in this state and probably
in the other states too and they would not brook any nonsense.

As for Warren's gibes at me about being a teacher, I leave it to my
ex-students. I have elderly women coming and throwing the arms around me
and thanking me for what I did for them 50 or 60 years ago when they were
in my classroom and elderly men shaking hands and wishing me well. They
tell me how much they appreciated what I did for them. That gives me a
good feeling. I can't remember one student that I could not handle and
that was in 47 years in schools, 30 as a deputy principal with
responsibilities that included the discipline in the school..

I am not boasting. Warren can make his judgment from afar without even
meeting me, and with his vast knowledge of me and all things Australian
but the facts are as they are and he can not know anything about it. That
doesn't deter him however.
Cheers, Pete,
Bob VK6BE.

>Since the time, that Warren and I were of school age, they now have
"Student's Rights", they now have laws and rules here, that protect
both the student and the teacher .... from each other...but then I
feel mostly from the teacher, so where you might feel "WE" have it
in for the teacher, not for all, but perhaps here and there a
memory lingers and not a good one.... and here and there a professional
coverup.

I have no idea if the "Kaptaino" has it in for teachers, or a teacher.
I can say I don't, but then I sort of did, from public school where
myself an another school mate at the time, watched a teacher we both
"feared" carrying a lad in the air, with his legs going, and yelling
in pain, where he had an injury...and to this day, we don't know if
inflicted by the teacher..or not....but the rough treatment and the
method of carry to the school...and inside ...we know not where...well
if that was a version of first air rendered....aaah ...mmmm ...well.

The bottomline is NO ONE saw that boy at school again, and the serious
injury between the lad's legs meant an operation..or he died.
