I personally use a "polarphaser" that gives me continuous variable phase
control that allows me to change from vertical, through left-hand circular,
through horizontal, through right-hand circular, and back to vertical,
with one turn of a knob. This is a comercial unit that doesn't use coax to
produce the phase shifts.
The crossed yagis are mounted as an X as apposed to a + .

If you want to build your own polarisation control using coax, it is
described in the RSGB vhf/uhf manual under the chapter on antennas.
