SSTV Project:
Hello everyone.
The MAREX-NA Mir SSTV (Kenwood TM-V7A / Tasco ) system has passed
all of the Russian Space safety certification testing!
The MAREX-NA Mir SSTV has been certified for use on the Space Station
Mir and the approval to fly has been signed. Congratulations everyone
for a job well done. The exact date for the launch has not been chosen
at this time. There are three possible flight opportunities between
October 98 and March 1999. We will keep you informed as information
comes in.
Mir Life Span: The current plan is to keep the Mir Space Station
occupied until approximately June/July 1999. After this date, the manned
crew will leave the Mir Station and return to earth. A remotely control-
led booster will dock with the Mir station and then fly the Mir station
towards a controlled landing location in the Pacific ocean a few months
later. If the occupation of the International Space Station (Alpha)
is delayed there is the possibility the manned Mir Missions may be
extended.
SSTV Frequency:
The IARU is still working on the SSTV Frequency.
PMS Project:
The Kantronics KPC-9612 PMS is still working Great.
Check it out on 145.985 FM Simplex. For some reason, there are many web
pages listing the incorrect Mir 2-meter frequency. The frequency is
145.985 FM simplex and has been in use since April 1997 and is still the
primary 2-meter frequency. The Primary PMS antenna on the Mir Base-Block
was repaired a few months ago. The PMS Primary antenna is a Larsen Dual-
Band mobile antenna (2m/70cm). The PMS has been using a back-up antenna
located on the Pirodia Module since December 97. The crew is planning on
eventually moving the PMS back to the Mir Base-Block in the near future.
The Mir crew spends most of their time in the Base-Block. The move will
give the crews easier access to the PMS.
Next Crew SOYUZ TM-28 will be launching between August 15 -16. Mir Soyuz
TM-28 crew will consist of Sergei Avdeyev, Gennadiy Padalko and Yuri
Baturin. (Sergei and Gennadiy both received training on the MAREX-NA SSTV
system in Star City). Some of the Evening passes may be visible and you may
have the opportunity to get a view of the Mir begin chased by Soyuze TM-28.
Use your tracking program to calculate the pass times.
The existing Mir crew Soyuz TM-27 ( Jan. 29, 1998 - August 98) Talgat
Musabayev and Nikolai Budarin will be returning to earth.
