This is what Ted G8NPF wrote in the Sally list about new Sally features:

} For anyone who is interested...
}
} I have no idea of how many people are left on this mailing list, so I
} may well be talking to myself (nothing new there then...)
}
} --------------------------------------------
} Wanted. Some pre-beta testers for Sally 4
}
} Anyone got some time to waste?
} Like to help me debug the new version of Sally???
}
} So, why a new version?
} In the years since I started Sally I have learnt a lot about
} programming. I got bored one day and decided to attack the Sally code
} again. The initial idea was to make it work with "XP Themes". However,
} one thing lead to another...
}
} One of the most common complaints about Sally is that it is far to
} complicated to set up.
} So... In this version the configuration has been simplified, meaning it
} is a lot less user configurable! Hopefully I have not removed anything
} too useful, but no doubt some people may not like the changes.
}
} Some parts of Sally were very old code (almost unchanged from the 16 bit
} days) and slow. In the old days provided it could work faster than a
} 1200 baud TNC that was good enough! Not now...
}
} So, I have re-written some old-but-working code that I now consider to
} have been badly written. This, of course, is a great way to introduce new
} bugs.
}
} I have re-written some working code in order to try out some new
} programming techniques. This, of course, another great way to introduce
} new bugs.
}
} I have re-written much of the AGW and Telnet interface which should make
} it much faster than it was before. More bugs?
}
} This version has been primarily developed for use with AGW and Telnet,
} with Windows XP/2000. There has been virtually no testing with other
} host modes (BPQ, TF) or other versions of Windows. Support for 16 bit
} and DOS mode packet drivers is being phased out. Whilst I have not yet
} intentionally done anything to stop these drivers working, it is unlikely
} that there will be any further development or testing with them, and
} eventually they may be removed completely.
}
} Now, all this new code has had very little testing, but I do have a
} Sally telnet link working and that does seems ok. So, if anyone would
} like to try it out please let me know, but bear in mind in may well
} have major bugs in it. I would love to think it will all work ok first
} time, but...  :-)
}
} I need ***feedback***, so please only participate if you have the time
} and inclination to do some testing. This is not just a working upgrade
} to your existing version of Sally. It is a work-in-progress that may
} well have serious bugs in it!
}
} ---------------
}
} There is now a preview version of Sally 4.0.200 in the "Sally software"
} section on my web site www.ntsx.co.uk
}
} Ted G8NPF.

Sally 4 is available too in my web site.
