I was having a play with Sally on another machine recently. It was loaded
with Win98SE onto a Pentium 233, with a 1,2 gig Bigfoot.
I loaded Sally 076, and AGW 2002.10. Got the missing file MSVBVM60.dll. I
copied it fronm a machine with XP, anfd loaded it into Windows\System. Got
a similar message, but no program running. I copied it into
Windows\System32, and tried again. Bingo! up came the program.
Try that, it may help, as it sent my system into a point whewre I could
do something.
I spent a fair bit of time playing with Sally, and although it was
transmitting, I couldn't see any traffic, nor get any contact with BBS.
(Modem is a Baycom).
I find that you have to be selective with comms cables on the motherboard
as some don't work on some machines. (What works on one may not work with
another. Just swap & try until it works) AGW set for Baycom, & Sally set
for AGW, but apparently it is not sufficient. I loaded a later version
(122 I think) but still no joy. I did notice that when I wanted to access
a config screen, (as depicted in the screen shots) the menu bar was hidden
by the main screen menu bar, & I coulsn't close it. The earlier version at
least had a scroll bar to get ar the top. I played with the scripts but
BBS access was not forthcoming. I figured that by the time I had got to
grips with the setup, the 30 day trial would have expired. So I
uninstalled it for a further play in the future.
Incidentally, I did put the latest version on a previous machine (that
had an operating Winpack), along with the later AGW (with the memory
release bug) and it totally crashed my system to the point that I had to
reformat the HDD, and restart all programs afresh, losing a week in the
process. Fortunately, I was able to use TPK on another HDD, with NO
trouble. (cvallsign at thattime was ZL1UIC, now ZL1AJG)
Looking at Sally, some of the features would be desirable on Winpack,
like the old bulletin deletion, selection (something TPK has, but Winpack
doesn't, a very handy feature)
But I will play further with Sally, although many more queries will come
from my end, no doubt!
