Not quite correct, Warren. Australia has both Government and free
enterprise TV. ABC TV and SBS are both Government sponsored and free of
advertising. The Channel 7 and 9 networks and some Community stations (Ch
54 in Perth) are free enterprise and do have advertisements. There are no
TV licences or charges for those station and their regional offshoots.
They braodcast on VHF and UHF.

Foxtel has a multi channel setup for which you pay a fee. You get some
100+ channels for this fee with more available if you pay more. Foxtel is
satellite for which you have a dish and a set top modem.

Yes I have heard the term Never Twice the Same Colour. Our technicians
seem to think it is a strange system but I would not know. I know that a
video tape I sent to a friend in the US which I recorded myself had to be
converted before she could watch it.

Cheers,
Bob VK6BE.

PS: By the way I am neither a Brit or an expat. I am an Australian
citizen. This in a previous packet of yours.
