It's only stressful if you allow it to be. I used to find it so when I
was younger, especially when I had young children. I remember plainly
still shopping on Christmas Eve, hoping for last minute bargains at market
and finding a reduced turkey, fruits, nuts and vegetables.
Then, along with rising blood pressure, came the internet and eBay, so I
buy gifts via my mouse, keyboard and postal or courier deliveries. Much
more relaxing!
It is the siege mentality and greed that causes such occasions to become
stressful because, like women at a jumble sale, shoppers will jostle with
each other in a mad crazy struggle to grab the last box of musthavits or
fill their supermarket trolleys to the brim with bread, milk, crisps and
assorted goodies as if the end of the world is nigh!

That's "The Final Countdown" aka "U.S.S. Nimitz: Lost in the Pacific".
A modern aircraft carrier is thrown back in time to 1941 near Hawaii, just
hours before the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbour.

Yes, pleasant memories. You must have read my account of being in a Crow's
Nest during a particularly rough Atlantic crossing. Those conditions can
cause adrenalin to run but were never as stressful as when being master of
my own destiny and finding myself on the wrong side of the buoys in a
narrow channel entering St. Mary's in the Scilly Isles with poor
visibility during a dark and stormy night and hearing the breakers
crashing against jagged rocks only feet away from my home and all my
possessions! THAT does
cause stress!
A Joyful and Peaceful Christmas to you Peter and your family and friends
and a Happy and Healthy New Year in 2007.
